Former Bundesliga Coach Sascha Lewandowski Dies at 44

Police Confirm Death

Former Bundesliga coach Sascha Lewandowski has died at the age of 44, police have confirmed. Bochum police confirmed on Thursday that the former Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin coach had been found dead at his home.

Career Highlights

Lewandowski coached Leverkusen in the 201213 Bundesliga season, leading the team to a fifth-place finish. He also had spells as manager of Union Berlin and VfL Bochum.

As a player, Lewandowski made over 200 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, winning the Bundesliga title in 1995 and 1996. He also represented Germany at international level, winning 13 caps.

Tributes Pour In

Tributes have been paid to Lewandowski from across the football world. Former Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller said: "I am deeply saddened by the news of Sascha's passing. He was a great coach and a wonderful person. He will be sadly missed."

Union Berlin president Dirk Zingler added: "Sascha was a true friend and a passionate coach. He will always be remembered fondly at Union Berlin."
