Borussia Dortmund Advance to Champions League Quarter-Finals
Sancho and Reus Find the Net in 2-0 Victory over PSV Eindhoven
A Quick Whistle Report from Reuters
Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus scored goals as Borussia Dortmund claimed a decisive 2-0 victory against PSV Eindhoven in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on Wednesday, securing their spot in the quarter-finals. The win marks the German club's first appearance in the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition in three years.
Dortmund took the lead in the 29th minute through the in-form Sancho, who finished a clinical counter-attack with a composed finish into the bottom corner. The visitors doubled their advantage just four minutes later, with Reus slotting home after being played through on goal by Jude Bellingham.
PSV pushed for a way back into the tie in the second half, but Dortmund's defense held firm to preserve their clean sheet. The Dutch side's hopes were dealt a blow when Ibrahim Sangare was sent off for a second yellow card in the 80th minute, effectively ending their chances of a comeback.
Dortmund's victory caps off a successful night for German clubs in the Champions League, with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig also securing their place in the quarter-finals earlier in the day. The draw for the last eight will be held on Friday, March 17th.
